Even now, net-coding is still the biggest concern.
He knew it had issues, but severely underestimated how long it would take to fix. That’s the only logical explanation for me. Keep in mind: he’s been out of the game 12 years, and probably didn’t fully understand how big of a challenge this was going to be. The engine was kind of notorious for net-coding issues, and he wanted to make a giant massively multiplayer game based on it? I don’t buy it. Saying he did it just for the FPS features in it don’t really add up. It’s the only thing that makes sense to me. So, Roberts, remembering that people weren’t very happy with “Freelancer’s” graphics when he revealed it, decided he would use “the prettiest engine ever” to show off his new spaceship game.
